>>What I was saying was that people are calling him one of the greatest ever just for landing on the moon.<<
Can you land on the Moon? Can you even come CLOSE to achieving such a landmark event? Does it make you feel better to dismiss it as 'just' landing on the Moon?
>>there's no need to be a jerk about it afterwards.<<
Red Rose is not being a jerk. She, like me and a number of others here, is simply offended by people coming onto this site the DAY after Armstrong died and dismissing his achievements as unheroic or even entirely faked. You haven't even had the decency to go and look him up. All that stuff on Red Rose's answer is easily found online just by putting his name into Google. You show an incredible amount of hypocrisy in claiming others are being disrespectful to other heroes while at the same time being yourself incredibly disrespectful and dismissive of the achievements of a man whose name will be remembered forever. Don't you dare come on here and pretend you're being treated unfairly when people call you on that.
>>To say he's one of the greatest means that nearly all the other heroes come lower down the list.<<
What list? It is YOU who is inferring the existence of some list of rankings. Obama's statement just says he's among the greatest, and he damn well is.
>>it trivialises the actions of most other heroes, if just going to the moon automatically makes him one of the GREATEST.<<
But that is NOT why he is being called that. You might be ignorant of his other achievements, so you just assume everyone else is too and that's why they call him a hero? The people leading the tributs KNOW his full life history. They are NOT just saying it because of Apollo 11 alone, and you continually saying that won't make it true.
And I still want to know why achieving something that only a handful of people in the whole world have ever done doesn't qualify him for that title in your view.
