I don't think you even read my answer. People are not calling him the greatest ever "just" for landing on the moon because didn't JUST land on the moon - he had a whole bunch of amazing achievements which have led to his being described the way he has been.

I have some sympathy with your point of view. He certainly deserves praise for his courage in being in a spacecraft which, had its ascent engine failed, would have left him beyond any hope of rescue. But you could argue that Buzz Aldrin- and indeed all those who landed on the moon- did the same. However, being first is special, and gets a disproportionate amount of kudos.
The courage of others who have sat on the top of huge fireworks is beyond any doubt.
Those who designed the hardware deserve praise; as a retired engineer, I acknowledge that gladly. But they didn't put their safety on the line.
*BUT* I have *no* sympathy for those who, since Armstrong's death. have crawled out from underneath their rocks to denigrate him, and to join the tedious repetitive hordes who question whether the moon landings actually happened. (No, I'm not including you in their number.)
