Thank you.-If you want to progress in science there is no future in adopting the attitude - it is easier for me to change to decimals.The whole purpose of scientific notation - which is what you are dealing with - is to make things easier and to reduce errors - than dealing with a long unwieldy number. learn to enter straight into your calculator ,(3.2650X10^24) X ( 4.......
3.2650 x 10^24 is 3265000000000000000000000. 4.85 x 10^3 is 4850. I multiplied these numbers, and rounded to the number with the least amount of significant figures (4850 has 3 sig figs). My final answer was 1.58 x 10^28. Is this correct? Thank you.

The whole purpose of scientific notation - which is what you are dealing with - is to make things easier and to reduce errors - than dealing with a long unwieldy number.
learn to enter straight into your calculator , using brackets exactly as you have presented the problem:
Enter into calculator:
(3.2650X10^24) X ( 4.85 X 10^3) = and you will get the answer: 1.583525 X 10^28
Sort out significant figures (3) and you get as answer: 1.58 x 10^28

multiply the 3.265 x 4.85 = 15.84
15.84 = 1.584x10^1
add up the exponents 24 + 3 = 27
add this to the '1' on 1.584x10^1 = 1.58x10^28

don't change the numbers from scientific to decimals, it screws up some people
plus, use a calculator, it's much easier
