A space shuttle is traveling 28,000 mph. how far does the space shuttle travel in the blink of an eye

This is a question I have in AP Environmental Science. How do I do this? What are the conversion factors? Please be specific. I really don't understand!

Figure out the average time for an eye blink. I googled it and it says 3/10ths of a second. Let's assume that's right (seems about right).

So now you have to figure out how fast the shuttle goes in 1 second.

There are 60 minutes in an hour, so in one minute the shuttle goes
28000/60 miles

There are 60 seconds in a minute, so in 1 second the shuttle goes

28000 / 60 / 60 miles

Take that answer and multiply it by 3/10, the time for an eye blink.

distance = velocity x time

velocity = 28,000 mph = 12,517.12 m/sec

your question doesn't say how long or short the blink is. Once you have the time for the blink multiply it by the speed in metres per second and that will be the distance travelled.

Actually the question is flawed as anything travelling at 28,000 mph would fly off into deep space because of the simple fact that 25,000 mph is the escape velocity needed to completely leave the gravity of the Earth.

For Earth orbit you need about 17,600 mph. No object exceeded that unless it was a probe going to another planet like Mars or back in the days of the Apollo program sending men to the moon.
