What would happen if elenin hit earth

i know that nasa says it wont, and i believe them. but i heard it has slowed down so that got me thinking it 'might' hit us. what would happen if it hit water, and what would happen if it hit land.

also how did it start to slow down? i thought things went faster around the sun.

It has NOT "slowed down." Objects in orbit don't do that. It appears to be disintegrating, falling to pieces. It's not visible from Earth at the moment, so we don't know exactly what is happening to its form, but its _orbit_ cannot change. It is not going to hit Earth no matter what happens to it.

It would cause massive damage in the area where it hit, but it is too small to cause a world wide disaster. If it landed in the ocean it would cause a tsunami.

It speeds up as it gets closer to the Sun and slows down as it gets farther again. It think it has already passed perihelion, the closest point to the Sun, although it's minimum distance from Earth won't occur for a few more weeks.

A comet that is >4km across isn't going to do much to Earth, it will probably kill thousands if it hits a populated area, kill none if it hits a forest/desert, and cause a tsunami if it hits the ocean killing thousands. All in all, the results would be tragic but not extinction for the human race.

It would destroy a major chunk of land if it were to hit, gravitational force cuases the comet to slow down.

slowing down is the sign of directional change.
strange i was just looking this stuff up 2 minutes ago on youtube and i come acros this.
