Best telescope you can buy for under $100AUD

I just bought a bunch of cymbals for my drumset and now regret it because I really want to buy a telescope. I only have $100 left, so what is the best telescope for $100 and under?

The best telescope for under $100 are 10x50 binoculars.

Save your money for an 8" dobsonian telescope.

Any telescope with an apeture under 130mm (5") is a complete waste of money. The only thing you would be able to see is the moon. And absolutely, a $100 telescope will be a piece of junk. With astronomical equipment, you get what you pay for. Buy cheap, expect cheap unsatisfying views. There is just no way around it. What you might consider is buying a set of binoculars with the money. A set of 10x50 binoculars would give you better views than most so-called telescopes for $100. Although I own a few scopes, I frequently use binoculars for viewing. But whatever you do, don't buy a scope that retails for $100 or has an apeture of less than 5".

Sorry to say this, but you will only be wasting your money. A good telescope starts at $300. That's for the lowest of apertures. I suggest saving up a couple hundred and seeing if your family will throw down a hundred or two collectively for your BDay or Christmas or Graduation.

Trust me, nothing sucks more than spending your hard earned money on a scope only to get it and find out it sucks. You'll be much happier with a quality one.

Also don't ever buy one from a department store. Go through a quality dealer like Orion, Meade, Celestron.

Orion is great quality and cheap price for amateurs.
