The body which wiped out the dinosaurs was about

[From: ] [author: ] [Date: 11-05-14] [Hit: ]
-Im curious where they are asking that question with such certainty...the idea that an impact by a large meteor is what solely and definitely wiped out the dinosaurs is not conclusively proven, nor do I think it ever will be. There are a number of hypotheses dealing with this subject,......
A) as big as one of Mars' moons.
B) as big as an SUV.
C) as big as a 747.
D) as big as our Moon.

Thanks!

I'm curious where they are asking that question with such certainty...the idea that an impact by a large meteor is what solely and definitely wiped out the dinosaurs is not conclusively proven, nor do I think it ever will be. There are a number of hypotheses dealing with this subject, and the fossil record is not that clear-cut. Also, it should be pointed out that Mar's moons are probably accretion bodies, very loosely bound together. (Analysis indicates they have substantial empty space inside) It is very unlikely a body like that would survive a descent to actually collide with the planet, it would be pulverized once it passed Roche's limit.

Chicxulub craterFrom Wikipedia, the free encyclopediaJump to: navigation, search

Radar topography from NASA reveals part of the 180 kilometer (112 mi) diameter ring of the crater; clustered around the crater's trough are numerous sinkholes, suggesting a prehistoric oceanic basin in the depression left by the impact.[1]The Chicxulub crater ( /ˈtʃiːkʃəluːb/ cheek-shə-loob; Maya: [tʃʼikʃuluɓ]) is an ancient impact crater buried underneath the Yucatán Peninsula in Mexico.[2] Its center is located near the town of Chicxulub, after which the crater is named.[3] The crater is more than 180 km (110 mi) in diameter, making the feature one of the largest confirmed impact structures on Earth; the impacting bolide that formed the crater was at least 10 km (6 mi) in diameter. .."

6 kilometers is less than half the size of Deimos, Mars' smaller moon:

It was about 6 miles in diameter. MUCH smaller than Earth's moon, Much bigger than a 747 or SUV, so by default it must be the size of one of the Mars moons.
