If you ask this question because it cannot fly then let me point out that there are other birds that also cannot fly, like the ostrich.
Penguins are great swimmers on the other hand, an adaptation to their environment.
If you haven't seen it I recommend you to watch "March of the Penguins", an excellent documentary that makes me happy that I'm no emperor penguin of Antarctica (their life is incredible hard!). Nevertheless, it's absolutely worth watching!
