Jim Moor say: You can multiply anything by (1) and it won't change it's value.
(3/3) = 1
1/2 * (1) = 1/2
1/2 * (3/3) = 3/6
so 1/2 = 3/6

Jacob say: Yes, it is. So is 1/2 2/4 3/6 4/8 5/10 and so forth. If the numerator is able to be multiplied by 2 to get the denominator, it is 50%,
-
peevee say: With 6 as denominator 1/2 is 3/6. So 1/2 and 3/6 has the same value.
-
MICHAEL K say: True.

JosephV say: Simplify both and find the simple answer.
0.5 = 0.5

Jack say: False assumptions and false reasoning lead to false conclusions. Context is important. Numerically they are equal. But they do not have the same value. One is literally 1 part of a whole. The other is literally 3 parts of a whole. Clearly that is not the same. But one is one of 2 parts of a whole while the other is 3 of six parts of a whole. In that sense, they are equal. But they are NOT the same. Different, but equal. It didn't work with civil rights. But in this case it does work.

Johnathan say: They are indeed equal.
1/2 * 3/3 = 3/6.
-
smartcookie say: Jake is right. Take a pizza, cut it in 6 slices. Take 3 of them away (3/6) and you will see you have 1/2 pizza left.
-
Iggy Rocko say: Jake is correct.
3/6 =
3/(3(2)) =

Maverick Menthol say: Mathematically, yes. Although you are in the math section so...
Multiply each side by each ones denominator:
6 * 2 * 1/2 = 3/6 * 6 * 2
