Do you believe that you are what your genes are? Justify your answer.3. After learning about chromosomes, genes and DNA, what does it mean to be a human being now?......
1. How does the discovery of chromosomes, DNA and genes affect living things (especially man) and environment?

2. Do you believe that you are what your genes are? Justify your answer.

3. After learning about chromosomes, genes and DNA, what does it mean to be a human being now? Explain.

4. What are the social consequences if human (or living things in general) are perceived as things that are programmed by their DNA?

Please. I really need your help. I'll choose the best answer right away and give 10 points. So, please, to all the geniuses out there, answer these questions and give your opinions. ^_^

1. One of the most popularly known consequences of humans discovering the existence of chromosomes, DNA and genes is artificial breeding. Because we know there are discrete factors that are transmitted from generation to generation, we often selectively breed individuals (i.e. dogs or cattle) with good genes. There's also the aim to weed out, either through several generations of breeding or genetic engineering, undesirable genes. This often results in a gene pool (collection of all genes in a species) that caters specifically to humans and is unfit for survival in the wild (i.e. cabbage).

2. Not necessarily. While your genes dictate some of the traits you inherit (i.e. straight/curly hair, skin color, etc.), the expression of these genes can be influenced by environmental conditions. Genes endow you with the potential for a trait to be expressed, but if the environment does not require such traits or your body does not have the necessary resources to express the trait, then it will not necessarily show.

3. You could suddenly become all cynical and believe that we're all genetically predisposed towards a certain fate, but you can also use these facts to affirm your individuality and potential. Humanity is a combination of the genes you possess and the genes you choose to express. There's freedom in choosing to develop a particular gene/potential.
