Using a calc. how can I convert degrees minutes to degrees

For example, if the question was to change the following angles to degrees only:

42(degrees)36(minutes)

42(degrees) 36(minutes) = 42 degrees + (36/60) degrees

...there are 60 minutes in a degree

= 42 + 0.6 degrees

= 42.6 degrees <<<

Divide 36/60 to see what decimal fraction of a degree the minutes are

36/60 = 0.6

Answer: 42 . 6 degrees
