Chimps tend to use their arms for locomotion. In the wild, they swing from tree to tree primarily using their arms. They are genetically predisposed to have extremely strong arms. Our legs are much stronger than a chimp's, though. So it kind of depends. Either way, I would not want to be in a fight with one. Stronger arms, pronounced canines.
As far as the gorillas, not sure, but that seems a bit extreme to me.
