I have looked all over google and most of the answers i see are ''forever'' or very far. But im not sure i believe this seeing as its 1mw. If the clouds at night were low could it light them up a bit? I remember seeing this a few years ago witha green laser.

I assume you mean 1 mW, not MW.
Any clouds will block it. And t will be attenuated by dust and other things in the air. How far depends on how sensitive your receiver is.
Please don't shine it into the sky, as it if hits an aircraft, you are in big trouble. The department of homeland security has classified that as a terrorist act. There are hundreds of incidents where a pilot was partially blinded and the co-pilot had to take over. If that occurs at a time where the co-pilot were not available, you can have a crash and kill hundreds.
