Why (is the universe like it is)?
I guess I just still have a childlike curiosity about the WHYs of the universe I live in.

Because it can explain everything. If you don't know how something works, you can find out. If people haven't discovered the reason why yet, they can figure it out using the physics they already have.
Physics in turn can create a lot of wonderful things, from spacecraft, to an automobile, to the computer you're using to type this. Physics is used all around us!
For example, consider the idea of Electrogravity; that gravity is dependent on electricity or electric fields. We don't know how gravity works, yet this idea is interesting, and if proven right, could mean the world for spacecraft propulsion systems!
I personally think physics is amazing and I plan to pursue a career that uses it.

It explains many topics about why the world/universe works a certain way.

Because it's how nature works
