this is an algebra II problem

(a+3)x = a+b -5
so x = (a + b - 5)/ ( a + 3 )

ax + 3x + 5 = a + b

x (a + 3) + 5 = a + b

x (a + 3) = a + b - 5

a + b - 5
------------- = x
(a + 3)
