Math problem?????????????????

[From: ] [author: ] [Date: 12-08-27] [Hit: ]
............
if the average (arithmetic mean) of x, 5x, and 6x is 8, what is the value of x?

Can you explain me this problem?

-
arithmatic mean = sum of values / number of values
8 = (x + 5x + 6x)/3
8 = 12x/3 = 4x
x = 2
............... done

Forgive me mentioning it, but you should say or write
"Can you explain this problem to me?"
rather than
"Can you explain me this problem?"

Average means (sum of all the items)/(number of items)
In terms of x the average is (x + 5x + 6x)/3 = 4x
In terms of pure number the average is 8
These are the same, as they are both the average
4x = 8
x = 2

there are 3 numbers

if the mean is 8

The 3 numbers add up to 24.............mean is the total of the numbers divided by how many numbers there are

x + 5x + 6x = 12x

12x = 24
x = 24/12 = 2

-
Well that means average.
So what's the average of x, 5x, and 6x?
And that equals to 8.
So what's the value of x?

-
x+5x+6x/3 = 8

12x/3 = 8

4x = 8

x = 2
