tham153 say: as an astronomer who has worked on a couple space projects, run planetariums, and taught for over 30 years, I feel as entitled as any citizen to express my thoughts on subjects I am totally unqualified for, such as crime and medicine. But as a professional in my field, I give only my best possible professional advice and analysis. BTW, I twice ran for office (state legislature), served for six years as county chair of a political party, ten years on the state committee, and three time as part of the party's slate for the Electoral College. Regularly made speeches at state committee meetings on nonscience related topics, much like everyone else there, except that a few other were actually speaking on things they had professional qualifications for, like lawyers on various laws.

Yushchyshyn say: Politics is separate from science. That doesn't mean that science doesn't have political implications. Everybody should, at the bear minimum, make an informed choice to vote. When an issue is of a scientific nature, scientists, who are the best informed voters, should act.
The science should always come before the activism, as was the case with global warming. Unfortunately, as is also evident with global warming, ignorant people, who refuse to look into the science, act as if the activism came first.

Barcock Henbane Islamobamed say: Why are you asking this bunch of scientific idiots? I am a PhD scientist, so I know more than these ill informed and ignorant fools. We were taught in grad school that they should never be, and except for the bullshit social "sciences", real scientists have no time for it.

Mike say: It is just political posturing, trying to give the imprimatur of SCIENCE on a political agenda of the Left. Science has shown that Head Start is not effective, yet there is no liberal lobby saying we should heed science. President of Harvard Larry Summers was thrown out for suggesting that science interest is different between boys and girls, and that it should be considered. The ostensibly pro-science people says such a thing is not to be researched.
