The only useful question is whether there are any other lifeforms within contact distance given current and anticipated future technology. We have done thorough searches and found nothing. Therefore we are alone. WIth severe constraints upon future technology due to the second law of thermodynamics, there is no expectation of discovering life "up there" in the future either.
We are alone. Celebrate this discovery. It is the culmination of centuries of science and technology.

quantumclaustrophobe say: It's a very large question... and, one that we don't have enough information to answer. Truly, all anyone can offer are opinions; but there's no facts nor proof to back them up either way.
My *opinion* is that we aren't alone - that other planets have life, and a few likely have intelligent life. I can't prove it, but I use the argument of numbers - a trillion planets in the Milky Way alone, some much older than our solar system, some younger - my thought is, life must have occurred elsewhere... but - I could turn out to be wrong. So - we must keep an open mind, and gather facts as we're able to.

We can't prove it one way or another at the moment. At least not unless the Governments of the world know but are not telling us.
Personally I am convinced that given the size of the Universe it is teeming with life. Some no more than amoeba just thinking about crawling out of the ocean in the same way we did and some with intelligence and technology 1000s of years superior to ours.
