Could it have been possible that humans achieved the modern level or greater technology in the past and somehow all proof was destroyed?

An automobile would rust away in less than 50 years, a ship in 150. Even if evidence were found, would it be recognized?Would a computer chip be seen as such by an Archeologist of 100 years ago?or even today?......

Tom say: Of course, in the 250-50 thousand year presence of modern man, we would have plenty of time to have developed civilizations as advanced as our own (and more), had them destroyed, by war or natural disaster several times over. Our own Civilization only was started around 7000 bc. with gaps of 10K years between civilizations, its an easy bet.

What evidence would last 10, 000 years, beside rocks? especially if the centers were hit with nuke bombs or an asteroid? All wood and plastic would rot away. An automobile would rust away in less than 50 years, a ship in 150. Even if evidence were found, would it be recognized? Would a computer chip be seen as such by an Archeologist of 100 years ago? or even today?, especially if the style (owing to a different culture and history) were different. Would other unrecognized advanced devices simply have been already written off as "ritual objects" and tossed into box in a museum someplace?. ---Of course, especially with the archeological bias of there being only ONE steady rise in development, rather than cycles.

How many times could we put 9000 years of civilization with 10,000 year gaps into 250,000 years----plenty of times, for sure. Modern men didn't just stand around with their fingers up their butts all the time. NO "Ancient Astronauts" needed. we could have done it on our own.

MARK say: You are asking the wrong question. The more pertinent question follows. If we had been equally or more technologically advanced than we are now why would we have given it up? If your original question were to the point then the probability of there being no evidence is very close to zero. Look at the number of primitive societies for which there is evidence. A society at least as advanced as ours would leave evidence behind.
