Why are so many companies demanding nothing but engineers?
I mean at college, when looking for jobs and at career fairs, at least half of the companies want engineering only. That is so annoying. They (engineering majors) are not the only people in the world, somebody has to take the music, arts and humanities and other majors. You can't just them out on the street?

Elizabeth say: Well, the problem with your assessment is that it assumes people have a fixed set of skills. The question you really mean is 'why are people with arts, humanities, etc degrees not modifying their skillset to avail of jobs currently in the market'?

Arts students are valuable to companies - they spend huge amounts of cash on interfaces on devices, on pretty icons, on jingles and alert sounds, on improving user experience, on the aesthetics of the devices, how they look, how they feel, how they react.

You're just not seeing the bigger picture.

Yura K say: everything that is in your household from your mechanical pencil, chair, refrigerator to your car, took teams of engineers to design, build, test and place into production, even took teams of engineers to design the production line and the factory itself....
but my recommendation is to do what you love, independent of the paycheck

Tasm say: No one has to hire anyone.

Are you going to start a company and hire them?

az_lender say: Arts and music pay very well, to a tiny, tiny number of persons. When was the last time YOU paid money for art or music? Who got the money? This week I'm paying $32 for a theater ticket, but only a small number of the performers are in Actors Equity, many are being paid little or nothing. Lots of persons want to perform, not many want to pay.

Sales can be a good career for a "people" person...

Philomel say: There is a huge excess of engineers out of work right now. companies can hire engineers at very low pay, so they do. It has to do with the H1B visa's excesses. If you don't like it start writing to your congress people and demand that they cancel the H1B visa program until we get our economy back.
