What is the difference between the structure of an organ and the function of the organ

I will use a plant example. The leaf is an organ. One of its job is to carry out photosynthesis(in some plants). That would be its function. Leafs tend to be thin and have a lot of surface area. This helps with photosynthesis because it gives more places for sunlight to be absorbed.......
First describe your hand.

Then tell me what your hand does.

The structure of the organ is how it is and the function is what it does. The structure can help out the function. For example, since this is in botany, I will use a plant example. The leaf is an organ. One of it's job is to carry out photosynthesis(in some plants). That would be it's function. Leafs tend to be thin and have a lot of surface area. This helps with photosynthesis because it gives more places for sunlight to be absorbed. If it were fat and maybe shaped like a cube, it would have less surface area. Therefore, the thin and wide structure of the leaf helps it perform it's function to photosynthesize.

The structure is what it is made of.

The function is what it does.
