If plants need energy to grow and sugar has tons of energy, would it help if i mixed a tiny bit of sugar into the soil? Am I on to something here?

First of all, energy is not measured in tons.
How much sugar (measured in kilograms),
do you think contains a given amount of energy (measured in joules)?
You need to be clear on this.
Actually you are 'miles out' with your idea.
Do find out about what photosynthesis is.
It's very important to plants and you need to know what happens when plants photosynthesise.

I don't think it means "literally" means sugar. What it mean is photosynthesis, the plant uses sunlight to produce food and also so it can thrive. It also need a bit of glucose. Hope i helped.

Yup. Thy also need glucose which the sugar will help to generate :D
