Which organelles release oxygen

[From: ] [author: ] [Date: 11-10-29] [Hit: ]
A.B.C.D.Now, I and many others in my class chose C as the correct answer,......
Here is the situation:
I am in a college biology class, and we got back some graded tests today. One question was as follows:

Which organelles released [sic] oxygen?
A. Ribosome
B. Golgi apparatus
C. Chloroplast
D. Smooth ER

Now, I and many others in my class chose C as the correct answer, and according to my professor, we are wrong. He claims that the answer is D, smooth endoplasmic reticulum. I think this is ridiculous, and that he is wrong, however, he is adamant. Follow my logic here... Photosynthesis occurs in the chloroplasts, where the chlorophyll is located. One product of photosynesis is oxygen. Would it not be obvious, then, that it is, in fact, the chloroplast that releases oxygen? I cannot find any documentation on the internet that mentions the smooth endoplasmic reticulum in relation to the release of oxygen, but perhaps I am missing something. Any help?

Chloroplasts do release O2, you're correct. But what i think your ridiculous teacher means is that the answer is D because maybe O2 leaves the cell through the smooth ER.

Anyhow, I would say it should be C.

i also think the answer is C.

stop cheating. No one help this loser.
