4. The ozone hole occurring each spring over Antarctica appears to be caused by human-made CFCs.-2. The presence of ozone was crucial to the origin of life.Is false. Life CREATED the ozone layer.......
1. Ozone absorbs ultraviolet light from the Sun.
2. The presence of ozone was crucial to the origin of life.
3. If the ozone layer is depleted, we can expect the rate of mutations in land-based life-forms to increase significantly.
4. The ozone hole occurring each spring over Antarctica appears to be caused by human-made CFCs.

2. The presence of ozone was crucial to the origin of life.

Is false. Life CREATED the ozone layer. O2 is waste product of photosynthesis, and UV light breaking the bonds O2 molecules creates Ozone when thee ionized oxygen atoms recombine to form O3, ozone.

Edit: The question was "which statement iS NOT TRUE? Statements 1, 2, and 4 ARE TRUE.

-
Actually, all 4 are true. But #4 is not completely true since the ozone hole over Antarctica is there all year, not just in spring.

-
"oklatonola" is correct.

Life released oxygen, the oxygen was formed into ozone, and ozone allowed life to go up on land. So #2 is false... life came before ozone, not after.

-
your teacher wants 1 but I go with 4. seriously. if its man made why is the hole over Antarctica instead of being over major cities or Europe?

-
1. i doesn't absorb it reflects and 3. mutations wont matter we would all be dead anyway
2. it says was it IS we need it and we r using it
