To me, failing to account for prosaic explanations before making extraordinary claims sans extraordinary evidence makes the debunkee seem stupid. Also, the manner in which you casually disrespect attempts to produce real world explanations so that you might wallow in fantasy makes you seem a little silly.
It turns out that the real world is actually kind of an interesting place, and doesn't require much by way of embellishment, exaggeration, or fabrication to be awe inspiring. Often, I find the real explanation to be notably more fascinating than the sham one; ditto the process of uncovering it.

Perhaps we are talking about two different things? A "debunker" isn't someone that dumps you off your bed while you are at camp, okay? These are people that spend a great deal of time reacting to the hysteria surrounding wild claims from a very small, very uneducated group of Youtube abusers or shills for The History Channel's "Nostradamus: 2012" or con-men selling DVDs to "save" you from "The End Of The World". In some ways, these debunkers are heroes.
As a youngster in grade school, I am sure you are exposed to endless unsubstantiated claims by your classmates all the time, from the wildest conspiracy theories to what's for lunch today in the cafeteria. Why do you think that someone fighting for the truth "seems stupid"?

There are multitudes of ignorant fools claiming things that even more gullible and ignorant fools are all too happy to swallow up and believe. And then there are the innocent children that can't tell utterly stupid from plausibly realistic. The debunkers are just here to protect the children. WON'T YOU JUST THINK OF THE CHILDREN?!?!

I debunk hoaxes because I see it as one of the aspects of my job as a science educator.
