Do people sometimes like to think were the only life in the galaxy to make our planet a one of a kind

I seem to see that a lot of people i meet say there is no such thing's as aliens (especially in my school) But even though i say they found some "earth-like" planet's some do not believe me... (i tired to make this as good as i could)

I have heard of religious "revelations" that suggest we are the only "intelligent" life in the universe, but that life in other forms (plants, algae, bacteria, etc...) certainly can and probably do exist elsewhere in the universe.

Even if one is religious and thinks based on that we are the "only ones"; it is possible that there are other "human-like" species in the universe, but so far away that we will never ever be able to detect them, nor contact, nor interact with them, so from a practical standpoint, even if there is other intelligent life out there, it is so far away as to never have a consequence on us here (and vice versa).

Believing that the whole Universe is full of intelligent life, when you only have the Earth as an example, is like growing up in Beverly Hills and believing everyone has a butler and doesn't go to bed hungry. Math does NOT tell you that "because there are just so many stars there HAS TO BE intelligent life out there". Numbers do not do that. The best you can say (with supporting evidence) is that "we don't know".

Are we the only known life in the galaxy? At the moment.. yes.

Our planet is one of a kind. Yes there is life out there but no where is it going to be like Earth. What if the life is based on silicon, or copper instead of carbon like us.

Don't try to tell these people anything. They aren't going to listen. There are people who will.
