Why is evolution a theory and not a law?

[From: ] [author: ] [Date: 17-06-06] [Hit: ]
Their descriptions remain the same. For example, Newtons law of gravity does not change from day to day. Nor does the law of thermodynamics change from day to day.......
mutation- has been observed but either causes neutrality or causes diseases
separation- observed but never cause emergence of 2 different species
natural selection- has not been observed/ no model explains it/ and does cause emergence of a species from another

Sookey say: A theory is an explanation covering a large body of observations.

A law is a simple, one-dimensional description of one thing that seems to be universally true, something that can often be expressed mathematically.

Theories NEVER 'grow up' to be laws. They're two completely different things.

Of course creationist leaders lie about it and pretend that a law is a higher level of science. It's not.

Yummy Elephant Candy say: oh it's a theory bcuz nobody has ever observed a hamster giving birth to a crab
-
Reynaldo Weeks say: You need to learn the difference between a "hypothesis" and a "theory".
-
mark say: Just look up the terms 'scientific theory' and 'laws of physics'.

John say: scientific laws have to have a mathematical equation, such boyle's law pv=k. there is no mathematical equation when it comes to evolution, so it will never be a scientific law. scientific theories are not guesses or philosophy, but explanations on some aspect of the natural world. they are repeatedly tested and scrutinized to ensure that they are correct as far as we can know.

Lighting the Way to Reality say: Theories NEVER become laws, no matter HOW much evidence is found in support of them.

That is because theories and laws are two different things.

Laws merely describe, primarily through mathematical expression, the action of certain aspects of nature. Furthermore, laws are invariable. Their descriptions remain the same. For example, Newton's law of gravity does not change from day to day. Nor does the law of thermodynamics change from day to day.
