We can assume that they DO feel pain, as they react to stimuli that other animals would find painful, in a very similar way. Anyone telling you any different is trying to make you feel less guilty about eating them.
They do not release toxins into their flesh under any situation.
There are humane ways to kill lobsters, but they LOOK more gruesome, are more time consuming or require more skill and equipment, so they don't tend to be used.
I eat lobster, but am under no illusions that the way they tend to be killed is cruel and they do suffer.

MARK say: If you want to know the answer there is a way for you to find out. Get somebody to dump you in a bath of boiling water. Without doing it myself I suspect that the pain is beyond unbearable.
