What do you think is best to do?-Im from Florida... Trust me the hurricanes are always overhyped and since its only a category 2 youll be just fine.-A category 2 is serious stuff.......
Parts of my town are being evacuated due to hurricane Irene. Although I'm not in one of the areas I live within 100 feet of a bay. My town is expected to get a direct hit. What do you think is best to do?

A category 2 is serious stuff. Track the storm onhttp://www.wunderground.com/tropical/. No one knows for sure where it will go or how bad it will be. If you are getting hit with a category one, board up your windows and tape the ones you can't reach, have plenty of fresh water stored, electricity can go out for weeks....flashlight batteries cooking...Have food stores that will not spoil...can goods are great. Secure everything loose outside. Protect your car as you can. It's too late to trim large trees but they can go over or have large limbs ripped off. Also have $ because with no electricity you can't pump gas...so fill your car and have cash to buy things because registers will not be working. If you get a storm surge, you are in trouble. Hurricanes push water in front of them so the depth of water increases. Also don't forget your pets and protect them and have lots of food for them stored up. The site I gave you will give you the info you need. If it gets downgraded to a tropical storm, the winds can still be horrific and damage to your trees will happen. After going through the last one my best advice is that when a hurricane can be coming, it's a great time for a vacation and time to visit friends and relatives that live more inland. If you leave, leave early. Don't get stuck on the highway in the storm. If you leave late and there isn't a traffic jam, there can still be some really treacherous weather. Also severe tropical weather spawns tornadoes..so be careful. Have your cell phone charge and your auto charger in your pocket. Put all electrical stuff in taped plastic bags up high. And secure everything outside. Stuff becomes missles. Good luck. It will be an experience.
