The Earth core is about 9,000 degrees F, or something like that. I want to know how did scientists ever figure this out, since we could never dig our way to the core, nothing living ever witnessed the Earth's core, and no x-ray will ever see through the Earth to reveal its core. But how did we figure out about the Earth's core structure. I cannot for the life of me figure out how they found this out.

A large deal of it has to do with seismic (the waves generated by earthquakes) We know how they move through solids (like the earth's crust) and liquids (like the mantle) We also know how temperatures effect the way these types of waves move through substances at different temperatures. Based on all this, scientists have determined the waves move through the core like they would a very hot solid.

Secondary seismic waves do not travel through liquids, so the outer core has to be molten. AND the lava coming up along the oceanic ridges is lava that comes from the outer core through the mantle. Geologists can actually stick a thermometer in the lava before it solidifies/crystallizes. and becomes new ocean floor
