Whether you are a Christian or not, do you believe the biblical account of the global flood is real?
Do you believe there was any global flood at all, how does your belief differ from the biblical belief?
Why or Why not?

A case can be made for it.
What geological evidence in our world today supports events mentioned in the Bible, such as a global flood? See the links below.
Of course you will also see from other posts that many people do not believe it.

I believe the flood occurred, exactly as described in the Bible. Like you mentioned, the hundreds of flood legends from so many different cultures is evidence that SOMETHING must have happened. The Biblical account reads like an eye-witness account of a historical event, and not like a myth. In contrast, many of the flood legends from the various ancient cultures have more mythical elements to them, but most contain at a least some details in common with the historical record in the Bible. Shortly after the flood, when men began to increase in numbers again on the surface of the earth, they began to build the tower of Babel. God had to go down and confuse their languages to get them to spread out all over the earth like they were supposed to. When they went, they carried the knowledge of the flood with them, and over the thousands of years since then, the truth has been passed down in these cultures through oral tradition, but they picked up some fanciful details along the way. These legends lend credence to the Bible account, not just because they echo some of the details, but because they show how much more accurate and realistic the true story is compared to the legend version of it. This is the difference between oral tradition of man and inspired word of God.
Some interesting things I've pondered:
Scientists' "Neanderthal Man" were probably pre-Flood humans. Living in a very different environment and for hundreds of years longer, they no doubt developed stocky, sturdy frames. Shortly after the flood, the Bible records life spans drastically shorter, but does not explain why. It's possible that the new environment without the protective 'water canopy' was much more harsh and had a very different variety of plants available to eat, possibly less nourishing than before (hence the reason that God told Noah that his flesh would crave meat, which he was now allowed to eat.) Also interesting is the fact that a protective water canopy would have absorbed a great deal more of the sun's harmful radiation, which radiation is responsible for the radioactive isotopes deposited in all living things and used by scientists to date fossils. Of course, without knowing exactly how much radiation was on the earth at that time, any radioactive dating of pre-Flood fossils, etc, would be useless.
