yes, i know it's so debris does not hit your window and shatter it. but can wind from a hurricane blow your windows in? or cause them to break? i live in pennsylvania & hurricane irene is on it's way up here. should be here around late afternoon saturday or during the day sunday. they're ordering mandatory evacuation in all the shores, and they said new york is definitely in a lot of danger. they're closing down the highways & subways saturday afternoon. if a hurricane is suppose to be this bad, should i board my own windows?

I would. I live in Houston and we boarded all the downstairs windows. and upstairs I took everything down. Like painting as and everything and taped the windows so all the glass wouldnt shatter everywhere in my room. We didnt have any shattering. Just a tree fall down and take our fence out. it hit 100 mph and I read that Irene was alittle under that. I think the problem is all the flooding. adn you havent had a hurricane in a while so they dont know if your houses will be enough hold. But dont worry. I think they are making it ten times worse than its suppossed to be. Just take percautions and Sleep downstairs the whole deal.. And I swear.. Your power will be out so stock up on little fans(lol if its hot) and batteries and flashlights!!! I swear at night when there is no light. It is horriable. and all the food AND WATER you need!
