3. An empty box is 11cm per side. it will slowly be filled with sand. Sand has a density of 3.5g/cubic centimeters. what volume of sand will cause the box to sink?
4. A hydraulic machine is to lift a 1700 kg car. if the input force to a piston with cross sectional area of 65 square centimeters, what should be the cross-sectional area of the piston where the car lies?
please show the solution. thanks :)

If V is the volume of sand required
its mass is
Vd = 3.5*V
To sink the volume of water to be displaced is 11^3 (cm)^3
Mass of water displaced = 11^3 *1 gm
3.5*V must be equal to 1331 gm
V = 380 (cm)^ 3 of sand is required .
------------------------------------
1700 /A 1 = P / A2
A2 = (P/1700) * 65 ( cm )^2
where P is the mass that should be placed over the piston.

3. by :- V x 3.5 x 10^3 x g = (11 x 10^-2)^3 x 10^3 x g
=>V = 3.8 x 10^-4 m^3
=>(11 x 10^-2)^2 x h = 3.8 x 10^-4
=>h = 3.14 x 10^-2 m
=>h = 3.14 cm
4. The question is incomplete.
