I'm doing a maths assignment and im qute clueless at this linear stuff.
I need to find a real world example of a linear relationship. I have guessed one:
A guy is skating up a ramp 1.5m high 2m long. Rise = 1.5m Run=2m. Rise/Run = gradient = 0.75. I NEED TO HAVE AN EQUATION IN MY ANSWER! For my guess I got the equation y = x + 0.75 .
Could somebody please give me another real-world example of a linear equation WITH a worked equation. Thankyou in advance

A car moves at a constant speed of 40 mph. How far will it go in 7 hours ?
Equation: d = 40 t... where t is time in hours, and d, distance in miles
Another example:
Ebay charges $ 7 for each book ,plus a fixed amount of $5 for shipping . How much would you pay for 9 books.
The equation: C = 7x + 5 where x = number of books purchased.
Sorry but your example is not correct.

Building on your situation, you can visualize that you are starting at the y-axis and going forward onto the ramp with a slope of 0.75. The y-intercept (b) is 0 and the slope (m) is 0.75. Plug these into y=mx+b:
y=0.75x+0
or
y=0.75x
y=0.75x+0
or
y=0.75x
