thanks very much :D

49^(x - 1) = 1/343
(7^2)^(x - 1) = 1/(7^3)
7^(2x - 2) = 7^(-3)
2x - 2 = -3
2x = -1
x = -1/2
(7^2)^(x - 1) = 1/(7^3)
7^(2x - 2) = 7^(-3)
2x - 2 = -3
2x = -1
x = -1/2

FIRST... you mean 49^(x-1)
SECOND... 7^3 = 343 ... and so 7^(-3) = 1/343 ... so set x-1 = 3 ; x = -2 <<< in my case, but finish your problem. we need the sqrt of 49 also.
so [ 49^(1/2) ] ^ (-3) = 49^(-3/2) ... which = (x-1) so x = (-1/2)
... and that is the long thought procees - of a tired brain

Question is incorrect and should be shown as :-
49^(x - 1) = 1/343
7^(2x - 2) = 7^(-3)
2x - 2 = - 3
2x = - 1
x = - 1/2
49^(x - 1) = 1/343
7^(2x - 2) = 7^(-3)
2x - 2 = - 3
2x = - 1
x = - 1/2
