Why can I see through the moon

[From: ] [author: ] [Date: 12-09-04] [Hit: ]
If the clouds are thin enough, and it is a bright full Moon, the Moon will shine through the clouds giving an illusion of the clouds being clear only when they are in front of the Moon. This gives an illusion of the clouds passing behind the Moon.-Its just an optical illusion. Your brain cant differentiate distances that far away -- your eyes arent far enough apart.......
I can see the clouds passing behind the moon. Why is that?

-
It is an illusion. The Moon is much farther away than the highest clouds. You are seeing the clouds pass in front of the Moon. If the clouds are thin enough, and it is a bright full Moon, the Moon will shine through the clouds giving an illusion of the clouds being clear only when they are in front of the Moon. This gives an illusion of the clouds passing behind the Moon.

-
It's just an optical illusion. Your brain can't differentiate distances that far away -- your eyes aren't far enough apart. The clouds are in our own atmosphere, the moon is 250,000 miles away. The clouds are passing in front of the moon. The three stars that form Orion's Belt, as seen from the earth, are nowhere near each other as seen from "above."

-
That simply cannot be the case. Perhaps the light coming from the moon is prohibiting you from resolving the clouds, whereas the parts of the clouds outside the moon are darker due to less light traveling through them.

-
The moon is further away than the clouds. It probably looks like that because the brightness of the moon means you cannot see the clouds when they pass in front of it.

If they were thicker you would be able to see them pass in front better.

-
1) You cannot see through the moon
2) There are no clouds near the moon

Clouds are within the atmosphere of the earth. The moon is more than 200,000 MILES away.

You did not see what you think you saw.

-
Perhaps because clouds can only pass in front of the Moon from your perspective. If the clouds are thin you might see the image of the Moon through them.

-
The sky is a lie, you live in a dome. The moon is 200 ft wide and is indoors.

maybe.

-
Clouds are mostly transparent, and they let the moon's light through them. That is why the moon can appear to be in front of the clouds.

-
No you can't. You're misinterpreting what you see.

-
No, you can't. Either you are being silly or it is an optical illusion.

-
You can't.
No, you have never seen clouds passing behind it.

-
Clouds are silver/white so is the moon when it shines

-
Because, like me, you have a replica of Van Gogh's "Starry Night" hanging on your wall.

-
Because you have eyes.

-
Because you are a witch
