Every single prediction attached to the Big 2012 Hoax can be traced back, either to its creation during the summer of 2003 (like the fake Nostradamus predictions for 2012) or to earlier hoaxes (like the Photon Belt, a hoax invented in Germany a long time ago).

However, they decided to take the lemons and make lemonade: there will be big tourist celebrations on December 21, 2012 all over the Yucatan Peninsula. However, their web sites already warn: you will only be allowed in if you have a return ticket. They don't want to be stuck with idiots who actually believe this crap, once the world fails to end.
I don't even think it'll be like Y2K.. I don't think anyone will care because it's pretty clearly a myth. Y2K at least had a legitimate problem fueling it and the reason it was nothing is because software companies spent a fortune updating their software to troubleshoot the issue.
There were some minor things that Y2K DID cause, but nothing like the catastrophes expected.
12/21/12 will be a NOTHING day. The world will not end, and everyone will wake up all bright-eyed and bushy-tailed on 12/22/12.
Y2K will prove to be MORE important than 12/21/12.
