When it contains a good amount of water, the snow feels more sticky and, e.g. it is easier to make snowballs and snowmen. Very cold weather brings what is sometimes called dry snow.......

Weather forecasters sometimes try to be creative with the English language. Sticky snow is probably snow very close to freezing point. When it contains a good amount of water, the snow feels more "sticky" and, e.g. it is easier to make snowballs and snowmen. Very cold weather brings what is sometimes called "dry" snow. It is not dry, only that it doesn't "stick" together that well.

A squall is a strong gust of wind. In meteorology, we often talk about a squall line, which is a phenomenon just ahead of the passing of a cold front. You will experience the wind going from nothing to a gale force in a matter of seconds. You will also notice a line of clouds moving fast toward you. Sometimes, that is called in the USA for a "derecho" from the Spanish word meaning: right.

A shower is the name given to a sudden but intermittent rain. It is often associated also with the passing of a cold front and therefore, the term "squally shower" makes sense. Basically, the air is unstable, the wind is gusty and shifting in direction, rain showers may occur and even, thunderstorms.

Technically it is not what Essex is getting tonight, as you can't speak factually about future weather. You can, however, forecast what the most likely weather will take place.

What is wrong with your weather person?? I assume they mean snow that sticks to the ground rather than melts. Squally showers means intermittent showers, I'm guessing.
