Colonizing Mars is a little further into the future. An interesting, and slightly disturbing, mission proposal would be a one way mission where the crew would go there and spend the rest of the their lives on Mars. http://news.discovery.com/space/human-sp…
Anyways to highlight my answer to your question. Some people may feel we are not ready for that yet, specifically for the costs.

No one I know is against it.
Most rational people are quite supportive of the idea.
The only people that could possibly be against it are people with no vision for the future, or people that believe the money should be spent on things at home (like war), or people that wouldn't want to go and don't want anyone else to go either.

Mars might be different. It may be possible (albeit very challenging) to colonize Mars.

life can't be supported on either sorry, no water, good luck with that. this planet will be devoid of natural resources in 100 years anyway, have fun, polar ice caps will be gone by 2020
