Why don't they hook a super long rope ladder to the moon so we can climb up there

866,000 or ~$8.5 billion. The budget of NASA this year was about $19 billion so if they did that they would be spending almost half of their money on a ladder. Now comes the problem of getting up the ladder, the moon orbits the earth in an elliptical pattern so the ladder would only be reachable fromcertain points and at certain times,......
it would be a great tourist attraction. they could charge everyone a couple bucks to help pay for it.

The average distance between the moon and the earth is 384,403 km, I just looked up how much a rope ladder is and it's 3m for $66, so 384,403,000m would be about $8,456,866,000 or ~$8.5 billion. The budget of NASA this year was about $19 billion so if they did that they would be spending almost half of their money on a ladder.

Now comes the problem of getting up the ladder, the moon orbits the earth in an elliptical pattern so the ladder would only be reachable from certain points and at certain times, likely travelling at a great velocity and hard to hold. Once the astronaut has gotten a hold on this ladder he would likely climb at about two rungs a second, assuming each rung is about a foot, or ~0.33m, he would travel at 0.66m/s making the 384,403 km trip take about 18 and a half years assuming no food or rest breaks.

I doubt his oxygen would last him that long and he would likely asphyxiate in space if he hadn't burnt to death on the ladder made out of rope that's being subject to scorching solar winds.

So that's why they don't hook a super long rope ladder to the moon.

The rope/ladder would have to be made out of shuttle material so the atmosphere would not scorch it but there still a heat issue. Then there's you what could you wear so you don't fry to death. If you manage to get past that then there's a stamina issue how long could you keep climbing before your exhausted.

-
Say you could, attaching it to the Moon probably isn't a good idea. The Earth rotates faster than the Moon revolves...it'd break the rope. Though, if you put the rope on the North Pole, that might do the trick...but I still don't recommend it.

-
We don't have enough raw materials on earth to make a rope that long but we could start tying peoples bed sheets together like something out of a prison jailbreak movie.

-
It would probably break and have to be extremely long and have to be super durable

-
The distance between earth and moon is too much. You will die climbing the rope stair and you can also die of vacuum...

-
If you tried to climb to the moon on a ladder you would die
