Why do they say the stars will eventually go the other way

How is this gonna work? how will the stars suddenly turn around and crash into stars coming the opposite direction?

Big crunch theory? The universe will eventually contract back into a singularity and all the stars and planets will be be crashing and crunching their way into oblivion as the universe gets so small there wont be enough space to keep them apart. Gravity will Crunch everything, including space and time into a tiny ball of goop.

Where do you get this rather fantastic notion from?

I have never heard of anyone claiming that stars would turn around.

That said, if you are thinking about the fate of the distance universe, billions of years from now, where it was believed that at some point the expansion of the universe would stop because of the collective gravity of everything there is, and that all the galaxies would fall back on one another towards a 'big crunch', you can relax. Measurements seem to show that the galaxies move away beyond their collective escape velocity, so would never reach a point where they would stop, let alone fall back.

I never heard that. In a stable galaxy, like what we're in now, the stars generally all orbit in the same direction and there is very low chance of collision.

Eventually, billions of years from now, our galaxy will merge with Andromeda. That will upset all the orbits. But still, chances of an actual collision would still be low as there is so much empty space between stars.

It's definitely Impossible.


* What you may be referring to are constellations rising High from one direction and retiring to the opposite direction (N-S, E-W...etc). This gives the effect of a "Flip" of view in the constellation.
