I know the answer is y=3/5, but I still do not understand how y was found
-
Multiply everything by 3 so you get
2y+3y=3 =>
5y=3 =>
so y=3/5
2y+3y=3 =>
5y=3 =>
so y=3/5

Add 2/3y and y together because they are like terms.
That equals, 5/3y.
So 5/3y = 1.
Then, we isolate the y by dividing both sides by 5/3.
1 divided by 5/3 is equal to 1 multiplied by 3/5 which equals 3/5.
So since we've isolated the y, and crossed out the 5/3 on that side.
y= 1 times 3/5.
y = 3/5
That equals, 5/3y.
So 5/3y = 1.
Then, we isolate the y by dividing both sides by 5/3.
1 divided by 5/3 is equal to 1 multiplied by 3/5 which equals 3/5.
So since we've isolated the y, and crossed out the 5/3 on that side.
y= 1 times 3/5.
y = 3/5

2/3y + 3/3y = 1
5/3y = 1
3/5(5/3)y = 1(3/5)
y = 3/5
5/3y = 1
3/5(5/3)y = 1(3/5)
y = 3/5
