GOP 37.IND 5.The GOP candidate got 755 votes. How many total votes were cast, and how many did the other two candidates get?-Let the total number of votes cast be V.......
There is an election. There is a Democrat candidate, a Republican candidate, and an Independent candidate.

The results are such:
DEM 56.6%
GOP 37.7%
IND 5.7%

The GOP candidate got 755 votes. How many total votes were cast, and how many did the other two candidates get?

-
Let the total number of votes cast be V.
That means that 37.7% of V is 755
Or: V * 37.7/100 = 755
Divide both sides by 37.7/100
V * 37.7/100 ÷ 37.7/100 = 755 ÷ 37.7/100
V = 2002.6525, which rounds to 2003 votes cast

DEM = 2003 * 56.6% = 1133.698 = 1134
GOP = 2003 * 37.7% = 755.131 = 755
IND = 2003 * 5.7% = 114.171 = 114

Just to check:
1134+755+114 = 2003
