Please help me answer this word prob: after traveling 750 miles, the pilot of an airliner increased the speed

by 20 mph and continued another 780 miles, If the same amount of time was spent at each rate, find the rates.

Please tell me how to set up the problem I would like to do it myself I just have no idea how to solve it!

let the initial speed = x mph

After increasing speed, the speed is = (x + 20) mph

time taken to cover 750 miles = 750/x

time taken cover next 780 miles = 780/(x+20)

since both the times are equal

750/x = 780/(x+20)

=> 780x = 750x + 15000

=> 30x = 15000

=> x = 500

x + 20 = 520

The initial speed is 500 mph

The subsequent speed is 520 mph
