Absolute Values problem

[From: ] [author: ] [Date: 11-09-09] [Hit: ]
Unless my 8th grade Algebra teacher lied to me........
if |y| < or = 3, and y> -1/2, what can you say about y?

-
Assuming that you know that absolute value is how far away the value is in either direction from zero, you can easily say that y is greater than -1/2 and less than or equal to 3. The problem pretty much says it all. Unless my 8th grade Algebra teacher lied to me..

IFF lyl < or = 3, then 3>or=y>or=(-3) so IFF y>(-1/2)
3>or=y>or=(-1/2)

-
you can say that y is between -1/2 and 3
