No. Papua New Guinea is a country officially called the Independent State of Papua New Guinea and it is located on the island of New Guinea.
The island of New Guinea is divided almost in half by two different countries. Papua New Guinea covers the eastern half is part of Indonesia.
Indonesia's province of Papua covered the entire western half until recently. That changed in 2003 when the Indonesian government split Papua Province into two provinces. The westernmost part of the island, around Bird's Head Peninsula, was originally named West Irian Jaya, but it is now called West Papua (province).
