Draw and explain what is ment by the fire triangle

A fire needs three things to be a fire. Remove any one of the three things and the fire can't exist.

One - fuel, anything that can burn, remove the fuel and a fire can't be supported

Two- oxygen- a fire needs oxygen to burn, so remove the oxygen and combustion can't take place

Three- heat- a fire needs heat to continue the chain reaction which is actually fuel and oxygen mixing and releasing heat to vaporize more fuel to continue the reaction. Taking heat away, such as spraying the fire with water, takes more heat away from the fire than it can produce so the fire goes out

The traditional three sided fire triangle has been up dated to a four side tetrahedron or if you preferr a three sided triangle proped up with am extra leg.

Point is that a fourth item has been added to the three traditional items necessary for fire to exist and that fourth item is "Chemical reaction" (rapid oxyidation)

disrupt the balance of one or more of these and the fire stops being self sustaining and can be extingished with the collapse of the remaining three items..

Dry chemical and halon fire extinguishers work by breaking the chemical reaction of fire.
