but because the third number 23.1 is given to only one significant figure after the decimal point the accuracy of the result is also only good to one signficant figure after the decimal point, so the correct answer is
89.4
b) 3.9 x 6.05 x 420 = 9909.9
but in multiplication the answer can only be as accurate as the number with lowest number of significant figures which is the first one 3.9 which has two significant figures. The answer can thus only have two significant figures and is 9900.
