the greeks knew the earth was round 2200 years ago
(eratosthenes proved it 200 bc and calculated its circumference to a great degree of accuracy)
The RC church tried push that the earth was flat onto their followers but didnt get very far

Hares are bigger, faster, with longer legs and ears, their whole way of life is different, they've got weird split lips and you can't domesticate them......and it's a really big deal!". Yes, fossils can be faked, but convincing fakes are pretty difficult. Piltdown man didn't actually fool many people, there was suspicion from the start that the jaw and skull didn't belong together (but everyone was too polite to accuse Dawson and chums of fraud without evidence), and after the initial media coverage it barely got mentioned in textbooks, especially after Homo erectus was discovered.
