It's also possible to fake old books, and the Bible is a good example. We now know that the ending of Mark's gospel was completely changedduring the dark ages and the story of the Woman caught in adultery was added later, so why this book is still regarded as divine and trustwworthy by anyone is beyond me.

Evidence for evolution in general comes from the fields of genetics, comparative anatomy, paleontology, and biogeography. However, understanding the evidence requires some work, and not everybody is cut out for work, especially of the mental kind. Mr. Smartypants say: First of all, THANK YOU SO MUCH for not repeating that old chestnut about evolution telling us we descended from apes, but instead stating (correctly!) that it teaches we have a common ancestor. You know how it is when it comes to often-repeated lies, you don't know if the person is just repeating something he's heard or he KNOWS it's a lie.
Now, what evidence is there? Tons and tons. There are whole books on the subject. Richard Dawkins (I'm sure you've heard that name), his actual job is to teach the general public about evolution. Several of his books are very good. My favorite is The Ancestor's Tale, in which he traverses the evolutionary taxonomy, moves from us down the tree, explaining each node and branch and what we have inherited there.
